Creating My Song: Color Me Humbled
"Everybody wants happiness, and nobody wants pain. But you can't have a rainbow without a little rain." Zion Forest Lee*
We love our comfy little place. So, sometimes we think that a challenge is a bad thing, that anything 'negative' is a curse. Still, without the seeming contradictions in life, we tend only to move from side to side instead of forward.
In composing my music, I continually run up against such contradictions. They can appear as either a small annoyance or total chaos. Do I always handle them with aplomb? Hardly.
We creative/artistic types are known for throwing things across the room when we feel tricked, or even abandoned (at least temporarily) by our muse. But we pick up the shattered coffee cup, or the cracked kitty bowl, and move on.
Eventually the song comes, the picture shows itself, the chapter gets written, and the light shines again. Euphoria ensues. At least until next time...
Color me powerful... Color me humbled.
