A Brother Remembered….Five Years Later

Today marks the fifth anniversary of the passing of my beloved brother, Donald Paul Matthews. He died of a massive heart attack in my arms while we were together in his 2001 Ford Ranger pickup truck, in the Office Max parking lot, Southeast Portland, Oregon. He was 61.

We had been estranged for several decades. But as his marriage began to dissolve, he turned back to me for solace and comfort. In 2006, he moved to Portland from So. California, stayed in his motor home on my RV pad, and then moved into a house a year later.

It took a bit of work but after all those years, we finally worked out our challenges. And we realized how much we loved each other.

You are still missed, my brother, my friend…
