How to Lose Your Brain

Six Ways to an Empty Head...

You have billions of brain cells. Who needs that many, right? So, if you don’t care about losing some of them, lots of them, here is a short list on how to do it more quickly and make it permanent:

• Eat lots of fatty animal tissue—beef, pork, packaged meats.

• Skip the green foods, the fruits, the seeds, nuts, and veggies, especially that awful stuff that comes right out of the ground.

• Don’t exercise. Watch more TV.

• Up the caffeine. Sleep less.

• Smoke more. Drink more alcohol. (Some say wine doesn’t count as booze so bottoms up!)

• Finally, if anything goes wrong, have lots of legal—and not so legal—drugs on hand. No need to worry any further. Pop a pill and you’re covered.

Results? Heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke, kidney and liver damage, vision, hearing, and bone loss, addiction, and of course, lots of dead brain cells. But who cares? It’s your life. Do as you will.

I’m not reprimanding, only reminding, for I have sinned “more than ye all.” But ultimately, your brain, your very being, is not yours alone. We need you to be at your physical, emotional, and spiritual best. You could be the one who tips the world aright. (Don’t laugh…it could happen!)

If you’re not taking care of yourself, you won’t be able to come to the rescue when you’re needed.

You’re needed right now. More than ever.

How to Control the Universe, or Something Similar

By Richard Kent Matthews - eBook Author | Coach | Speaker
Visit me on Amazon

Can you control the universe? Well, more than you might believe...
How do we explain love, especially Divine Love, in contrast to pain and suffering, death and violence, not only among humans, but also animals, plants, planetary bodies, colliding galaxies, supernovas and the continuous path called entropy, or the disintegration of all that is?

No matter the object, be it rock or flesh, or its direction, ultimately it all heads for destruction. It appears to be the natural way of things. Can we understand love in a way different from sweetness and light, or would that somehow be blasphemy?

Most of us who believe in some sort of God 'out there' actually think He/She will stick Its Divine Finger into the natural mix in order to suspend the laws of physics simply to put a little more money in the bank account, stop the spread of a cancerous tumor, or keep a child from breaking his neck on the football field.

Not likely.

But there is a way for you to control YOUR universe if not THE universe.
  • First, recognize your frailty. You are part of the creation, and are heading toward annihilation as certain as the rose in your garden or the moon in the sky on an August night.
  • Second, you have been given a finite amount of time to create and express your personal moment on this planet.
  • Third, you will be as good at creating your experience as your thoughts allow.
  • Fourth, your thoughts will ALWAYS determine the level of joy or anguish that you experience in any moment of your day.
  • Fifth, you can change your thinking if you want to do so, and you can also remain in your current patterns of thinking which are creating your current experience of the world.
  • Sixth, you can make one simple but major decision that will change your life forever, and this is the greatest and most powerful 'secret' you'll ever learn...
Eliminate all self-pity.*

Do that, and whatever amount of time you have on this planet, in this form, as a part of this universe will be heaven as you've never known it.

Guaranteed.

*(A spiritual disclaimer: Eliminating self-pity will, without doubt, be the toughest challenge you will ever accept into your life. Tis best to know that now, here, at the outset. And it also brings the most treasure. But you won't know until you move into and through it. Take the risk. It's worth it.)

What You Hear, Not What You Say, Will Change Your Life

You have two ears and one mouth for a very good reason.

"I remind myself every morning: Nothing I say this day will teach me anything. So if I'm going to learn, I must do it by listening." Larry King

"There are very few people who don't become more interesting when they stop talking." Mary Lowry

Listening...and observing

Listening is hard to do. We're often not really listening, but simply waiting to talk.

Observation? You usually see what you want to see, not what's actually in front of you.

Simple, really. Open your ears and eyes, close your mouth, and discover what you've been missing.

You might just find The Answer or The Deal or The Person you've been looking for, but were just too yappy to notice.

There, I've said enough. Even I'm listening.

Happy holidays.

Are You Selling Yourself Short?

By Richard Kent Matthews - eBook Author | Career Coach | Speaker

Nothing quite like you has ever existed. So, what are you going to do about it?

Einstein said that even though we know very little about anything, nonetheless, the Creator has seen fit to show itself to us even through the tiny bit of awareness we have.

We stand, ignorant, in a universe so vast and seemingly complex that it would appear impossible to ever know more than a small part of it. Yet, we have enough brainpower, enough curiosity, to crave knowledge, to seek wisdom, to discover that which is available for discovery. Though we may know little, still we are giants among creatures.

Our most determined and stubborn obstacle is ourselves.  In one moment, arrogant. In the next, self defeating.

The Inner Spirit, then, calls you to remember this: as you go through the day, you are more than just a number in someone's computer, more than just a dispensable part of the system. You are a living, breathing person, completely unique in all of history. You can think and reason. You can make intelligent decisions. You can create. You can explore.

As we seek, we find

You can seek the truth and find joy in the beauty around you. You can give your love and compassion to others. You can change things that anger or frustrate you.

You can make a difference in the world with your life.

You are overstuffed with continuing possibilities, no matter what has happened to you in the past, no matter what other people may think or say about you, no matter what your situation, your age, your race, your gender, your orientation.

You can create health in mind, body, spirit. And there is at least one thing you can do today that will continue to fulfill the special, priceless bundle of possibilities that is you. There is more to you than anyone could possibly imagine.

You are as vast and as complex as the universe itself. To grasp that, to let it sink deep into your very being, is to turn on a bright light, a light that can only exist because you do.

It’s now up to you to do all you can to let that Light shine through. Remember: when you’re happy, we are blessed, the nation is blessed, the world is blessed.

And the Spirit smiles...

From Dreary to Cheery: Choosing Your Mood

By Richard Kent Matthews - eBook Author | Career Coach | Speaker

Your mood, your call. It's all in your hands...

Sometimes I wake up in the morning in perhaps not the best mood. I have a long to-do list for today, much of it unpleasant, some of it I've put off for a while…a long while…and I know I can’t put it off any longer.

I bury my head under the covers. Just a few more minutes of doze and I’ll get up, I murmur. Not a great way to get the day going, right?

This might even be one of those days for you. You might even take it out to some degree on those closest to you.

The Mood You Choose

I would be the last person to tell you to simply change your mind and get over yourself. If you want to you will; if not, you won't. But I will suggest this:

There is a place deep in your heart where you feel totally connected to all that is. It can seem difficult to reach that place when you’re feeling rotten, but it’s there nonetheless. It is a matter of choice.

You can hang onto a bad mood; you can feel justified in doing so. And you already know that a slight shift in consciousness can turn the day around. The world begins to look different, better, even eager to have you as a part of it. And you don’t have to start off the day in a bad mood to make a deeper connection with that Place.

So, with that in mind, whatever your mood, allow yourself to take a few moments to access that deeper part of yourself that knows how to lift your spirits. It knows how to bring you into a gentler state of mind and how to help you change your worst feelings into feelings of joy, wonder, and playfulness.

It leads to a more generous space, a more prosperous space—physically, mentally, spiritually. And, at the end of those few moments, if you still decide that the bad mood is better, that it’s really where you want to be right now, that’s OK, too. Just as long as you recognize that it’s your call.

From Dreary to Cheery

Life is happening at its best right here in this moment, in this place. It only takes a minor tweak in our outlook to turn a dreary day into the most powerful day of our life.

This is the day that Love, Joy, and Gratitude have made. I can rejoice and be glad in it. Or I can go Bah, humbug! and feel sorry for myself.

It's always my call.

Warning! The Law of Attraction Might Be Hazardous to Your Abundance

By Richard Kent Matthews - eBook Author | Career Coach | Speaker

Not everything you read or hear about the Law of Attraction is on target. Here are 'the facts':

You can create anything you want, right? Well, not quite.

Here are 10 things you cannot create through the LOA:

• You can’t manufacture money out of the ethers. You'll be presented with opportunities; then, you must take action.

• Others won't magically do what you want them to do. You’ll resonate with some people, but not with everyone.

• You can’t force your desires on the universe. Clarity, then surrender, is the way.

• You can’t make anyone love you; they, too, are free to choose. Be who you are. That's the best draw.

• Your kids won't change by force. Love them; they will remember that more than anything.

• No matter how hard you try, not everyone will "understand."

You can’t ignore objective reality, no matter what the gurus tell you. (If you jump off a high cliff, you'll go splat. Trust me on this one!)

• Your disbelief cannot simply be suspended. Ultimately, you must be convinced. That's a good thing.

• You can’t do nothing; you are always in some kind of motion. And that's very attractive.

• What you truly want is what you attract. Look at your life. It is the sum total of all your choices. You, then, are a Result--of all your experiences, thoughts, actions, and beliefs.

Sound a bit negative? Not really. When your intention is in line with your vision and you take the right action, the LOA will bring into your life that which seems miraculous. But it will not break natural law. Only your understanding of natural law.

In other words, it's trustworthy, not flighty.

Finally, to sum up: You are the direct Result of what you truly believe—about everything. It’s what we call Free Will. Not even God will interfere with that. The Law of Attraction is always working. It depends on how you consciously choose to apply it to your life. It’s not as difficult—or as scary—as you think!

"Be content with what you have; rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you." Tao Te Ch'ing

Key words: Law of Attraction, you can't make anyone love you, how the LOA works, you are a Result of everything,

So, Just What Is God, Then?

By Richard Kent Matthews - eBook Author | Career Coach | Speaker

Here’s something you may not know.

The word “God” is not found in Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek or Latin Bibles.

It’s uncertain but it may derive from old Indo-European languages, particularly Persian and might possibly be from Pagan sources.

The name of God, biblically speaking, has been a source of disagreement for centuries. The word God is not really a proper noun; rather, it's a title. For the most part, that symbol has been applied to an enigma: a loving, caring Father, as well as a vengeful, jealous and seemingly power hungry dictator. To name is to define, and hence, limit by the definition. Christ, Buddha. Prophet—all titles, not names.

Should I stop using the word God?

It’s not necessary to give up the word. But it is important to remember to see it as a symbol, not a name. In my life, I now use the word God to represent Mystery, the Source of All That Is, the Ultimate Unnameable, Undefined, Unlimited, and Everywhere Present.
  •  God is Experience. As I walk through the world, I am constantly reminded of the Presence by what I see, feel, taste, smell, touch.
  • God is Relationship. I recognize not only the Presence of God in the world, but the immanent presence of God in my life. God is not a unique and separate entity.
  • God is the very essence of my being. I not only stand in the Presence of God, I am the Presence of God, standing. I am a single point of consciousness in the Infinite Consciousness. My experience is the way God experiences this small portion of the universe.
  • God is LOVE, in action in the world, in the cosmos. We have a tendency to think of love as an emotion. In fact, love is action. How you walk through the world, how you touch it, how you share, bring your best and do your best--that's love. As Meister Eckhart said, "It's no use walking anywhere to preach unless your walking is your preaching." Yeah, he got it.

The most reviled claim of all (by some, not everyone)

I am the Mystery, I am the Experience, I am God in Expression. And so are you. There is no separation between the Creator and the Created.

Deny it, reject it, believe as you choose. Still, God as described by the religions is probably weak at best, delusional at worst.

One Power, One Presence, One Energy, One Reality, One Life, and that Life is your life, my life. Right Now.

Thank God!

(Please feel free to share, whether you agree or disagree. Thanks.)

Is the Universe Fair to You...or to Anyone?

By Richard Kent Matthews - Ebook Author - Career Coach - Speaker

Why Can’t Everything Just Be Perfect?

"Why does it always happen to me???"

In his book Life 101, John-Roger writes:

“What if life were perfect? What if you lived in a perfect world of perfect people and perfect possessions, with everyone and everything doing the perfect thing at the perfect time?

What if you had everything you wanted, and only what you wanted, exactly as you wanted, precisely when you wanted it? What if, after a perfect length of time, you decided, ‘Perfection is a perfect bore!’

What if, at that point in your perfect world, you noticed for the first time a button marked ‘Surprise!’? What if you walked over, considered all that might be contained in the concept of 'surprise,’ decided, ‘Anything’s better than perfect boredom,’ took a deep breath, pushed the button… and found yourself where you are right now—feeling what you’re feeling now, thinking what you’re thinking now, with everything in your life precisely the way it is now, reading this?”

Life isn’t fair. How could it be? If it always tried to be fair, it would be taking from one to give to the other, but couldn’t do that because it wouldn’t be fair to the other, so it couldn’t take from that one to give to this one, because…well, it becomes obvious when deeply or even lightly considered that fairness to one is unfair to the other.

So, the universe in its infinite wisdom operates without fairness to anyone or anything.

Except in one way…

The Power Commitments: A Personal Evolution Process for 2017

The process of [personal evolution] is limited only by our imagination.”
Joe Dispenza – Evolving Your Brain

A new day dawns...

Commitment: the act of binding yourself (intellectually, emotionally, spiritually) to a course of action.

It's now December 2016. The new year is around the corner. Once again you have the opportunity to renew yourself, your surroundings, your experience.

The following four commitments are gentle but don’t let the softness fool you. These commitments can change the direction of your life. But do you want that? As Joe Dispenza also says in his book, “To change is to break the habit of being yourself.”

Many want to move forward while their feet are glued to the floor. If you are NOT among that number, then these commitments will help you move toward whatever it is you want to accomplish in the coming new year:

  1. Let go of the past. We all have memories we want to keep, of course, but most of us do not live in those memories. Letting go of the past means committing to forward movement, taking the best from what you have learned and experienced, using all that make this present moment and the next the most interesting they can be.
  2. Tell the truth. Acknowledge what is, ensure that your perspective aligns with your highest values, embrace the incredible complexity of life, recognize that what you believe today may change tomorrow. Your future self may have different tastes and ideas.
  3. Be supportive and helpful. Give of yourself without cynicism or negativity.
  4. Pick something to improve yourself. Focus on growing rather than on judging, complaining, and whining. Yes, we know you have troubles. So do we!

It’s simple to become and maintain your best self. Not necessarily easy, but simple. Here’s a bonus: Be authentic, find a purpose, develop compassion, seek wisdom. It all takes courage. You already have it. But then, you knew that, right???

“The moment you commit and quit holding back, all sorts of unforeseen incidents, meetings, and material assistance will rise up to help you. The simple act of commitment is a powerful magnet for help.” Napoleon Hill
