What Are You Saying!? Affirmations That 'Stop You Dead'

By Richard Kent Matthews - Coach | Author | Speaker

You might just be your own target!

So, you think affirmations don't work, or at least not as well as you'd like? Well, guess again.

The affirmations you use the most are working in your life all the time. They're manifesting exactly as you proclaim them. Especially when you believe them. Consciously or unconsciously.

Positive or negative, they are playing themselves out in your daily experience.

Unfortunately, here are the ones you use probably more than any others. They have served you in the very ways you think you wouldn't like. But you keep repeating them and consequently, you keep reaping--and perhaps suffering from--their sometimes overwhelming results:
  • That won't work.
  • I/we can't afford it.
  • It's never been done before.
  • Let's form a committee.
  • Here we go again!
  • We're not ready.
  • There isn't time!
  • My/our family/friends/organization/church/school/spouse won't like/try/do it.
  • It's hard/difficult/impossible.
  • I'm/we're scared.
  • I'm too fat/lazy/old/ugly/stupid/ignorant.
  • I don't want to.

These are the "Stop You Dead" affirmations. You use a few of them every day, sometimes every hour. What are you going to do about it?

As long as you continue to use these Deadlies, you will continue to manifest them. So, my most intense advice:

How to Reverse the Trend

Whenever you hear yourself repeating one of these habitual phrases, say the opposite. Like this:

That won’t work. But it could if I look for a better approach.
I’m scared. And I can still take the necessary steps.
I’m too stupid. Except that’s not true. I’m as smart as the next person.

You won’t believe it at first, but keep at it.

Be gentle. Some of your Deadlies have been your pals for a long time. They won't give up or in easily. Take your time; be sweet. Respect yourself. Those affirmations have been an important part of your survival strategy.

So, with care and coddling, every time you use one of your Deadlies,  counter it with a challenge. Eventually, the countering will overcome the Deadlies. Without fear, without resistance.

What do you have to lose, eh?
